IPL Removes Captain Bans for Slow Over-Rates from 2025

March 21, 2025 | By Shubham Shukla

The IPL has removed the rule that banned captains for one match after three slow over-rate offences in a season. From IPL 2025 onwards, teams will only face fines and on-field restrictions instead of captain suspensions.

However, this change does not apply to past penalties. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya, suspended under the old rule, will still miss the first match of IPL 2025.

This update allows teams to avoid losing their captains while still encouraging them to maintain the required over-rate.
